Our recycling plant in Tver has reached new volumes of production. Now we recycle 2200 tons of plastic bottles per month. This is almost 50 million bottles of 1.5L bottles. Each of those bottles takes up 280 cm³, which means that more than 200 football pitches can be covered by them.
Last week we worked on the quality of waste sorting improvement at the Moscow office of Yandex . We usually give a lecture or training to the employees in order to explain the rules of waste separation. But this time we decided to act differently: a lecture was conducted by one of Yandex employees, and our experts helped in the materials preparation and answered the questions of the audience.
In October, our lecturer Anastasia Chizhevskaya gave a lecture on green business at the Faculty of Economics of Moscow State University. In order not to be bored, we prepared a case study on making a completely non-ecological company more eco-friendly: students tried to establish a sustainable strategy for a fast-food restaurant chain development.

Several days before the beginning of study year, we held ecologic quests for kids in McDonalds Russia headquarters. The company included interactive master classes in their Open Day program for employees’ children, as McDonalds develops their business with care for people and the environment. Alena Antipenkova and Anna Morozova, our team experts, explained to the kids the difference between trash and recyclable, showed them the granules you can get from a recycled bottle and taught them how to tell one type of plastics from another. Overall, 100 young guests aged 4 to 18 took part in the quest. To be honest, the kids were surprisingly engaged – they couldn’t stop telling us about waste separation in their schools and helping the planet maintain the resources. Before the quests, the lectors gave the youngsters some theoretical information, and then the participants went on to separate the waste themselves, using the new knowledge. ‘Packaging and recycling’ is one of the five pillars of McDonalds’ global strategy to use the business to benefit the world. Now the company employees can follow the rational consuming and waste separation principles not only at work, but also with kids at home.
On September 1, Knowledge Day, our Tver Polymers Recycling Plant took part in a career festival, where the guests – school students and their parents – had an opportunity to find out many exciting things about various high-demand professions. TPRP employees told the participants about the activities going on at the plant, main issues of recycling process, and, eventually, about the vacancies at TPRP (e.g. waste sorters and waste loading trucks drivers). Do you know, for example, how sorters quickly distinguish one type of plastics from another? Is there a secret? Moreover, the guests of the festival got to see HDPE-granules and PET-flakes, which are produced by recycling plastic waste. They are later used as a material for production of new goods Tatiana Borsukova, TPRP employee, organized a master class at handicraft and showed the kids, how to breathe a new life into plastic in an extraordinary manner – by making a mural out of colorful HDPE-granules. We are glad that many kids and parents took interest in our plant’s work and professions!
August marked a happy occasion for Tver Polymers Recycling Plant. We broke a historical record of producing ready-to-use goods: we released 1488 tons of PET-flakes made from 2300 tons of PET-bottles. As you know, PET-flakes can be used for production of new bottles, synthetical filler for plush toys, and T-shirts. Our record-breaking number of PET-flakes can be used to make 3 450 000 T-Shirts or kits, just about enough to provide 300 000 football teams with equipment. As far as our information goes, there is no recycler in Russia to have reached more than 2200 tons of recycled PET-bottles in one month. This incredible achievement is a bright example of actioners and the plant employees. We thank everyone who has been there for us! New records will follow.

Plastic is really delivered to a plant, recycled and used as a secondary material’, said one of the participants of the tour to Tver Polymers Recycling Plant. At first, the guests observed the way a fandomate works in a ‘Perekrestok’ store. Then, the visitors had an opportunity to see what happens to the collected plastics. At our plant, we showed them the whole cycle of recycling a PET-bottle into flakes and granules. The bloggers posted the reports about visiting TPRP in social media, in order to share their impressions with hundreds of thousands subscribers who now know, why it is so important to separate the waste and how one person can make a difference.
In collaboration with ‘Magnet’ and Unilever, we launched the project in Tula and Krasnodar, two stores in each city. For us, the project is an immense opportunity to input into forming a waste separation habit and create a thoughtful approach to consuming. The vending machines collect PET-bottles and HDPE-flasks for household chemicals, produced by any brand, up to 2 liters in volume. In return, it gives out a coupon for 10 % off all ‘Chistaya Linia’ goods, which can be used in any ‘Magnet’ store. All the plastics collected will be distributed for recycling to our very own Tver Polymers Recycling Plant and to partners.
