An "Ecostation" was opened for the residents of Kazan

On April 28, the official opening of the "Ecostation" pavilion took place on the banks of the Kazanka River in Kazan. The new open space combines an interactive eco-educational exhibition, a place for public environmental events, a recycling workshop and a mobile waste collection point. The project was implemented in partnership with Kazanka Development Strategy, EcoTechnologies, EcoLogic Community, Kazan Parks and Squares Directorate and Kazan City Hall.
To celebrate the opening of the pavilion, a "Next Station - Eco!" celebration was organized. Residents were not only the first to visit the pavilion and hand over recyclable materials for recycling at the mobile station, but also took part in the exhibition of the city's eco-communities, swap exchange, master classes, eco-games and a concert. The festival also marked the beginning of the cycling season.

The ceremonial part of the event was marked by greetings from Iskander Giniyatullin, deputy head of the Kazan Executive Committee for Housing, Utilities and Landscape, and Alexey Anisimov, deputy general director of the Kazan regional waste management company MC "PZHKH". Kazan Alexei Anisimov, Director of the Directorate of Parks and Squares of Kazan Aigul Latypova, Supervisor of special projects and embankments of the Kazanka River Asiya Gizzatullina, Project Manager of EcoTechnologies Alena Kazakova and EcoLogicno community activist Farida Gazimova.
Iskander Giniyatullin, deputy head of the executive committee in charge of housing and utilities and civil defense, curator of the city's SD strategy projects:

Kazan is on the way to sustainable development. Eco-education is the most important condition for sustainable development of the city. The eco-station opened today is a prototype of the future ESG laboratory center, a competence center for intelligent consumption and closed-loop economy that we are beginning to implement in the city. A team of experts is already working on a strategy for the transition to ESG principles. Together with you, we are taking important steps in this direction. And we are very pleased to welcome here many environmental communities with whom we have been working for many years and who actively support all your initiatives. We also invite local residents to participate in future changes. We are very happy to welcome everyone in our large circle, we are open to suggestions, we are waiting for the development of this movement and the creation of everything new and better for Kazan.
Alexey Anisimov, deputy general director of the regional waste management company MC "PZHKH" of Kazan:

According to our statistics, the amount of waste in Tatarstan is growing by about 10% a year. In order to reduce the number and height of landfills, we need to start accustoming the population to separate waste collection and create the conditions for it. Now we have expanded the list of fractions accepted in yellow nets, we organize various waste collection campaigns. Thus, with the help of 1260 yellow nets we take about 100 garbage trucks for recycling. We continue to work on the issue of sorting and invite all residents to participate. Now it will be even easier: the container sites will have signs explaining what can be put there. Today we presented them at the event. We are glad that not indifferent businesses and residents are joining our efforts.

Aigul Latypova, Director of the Directorate of Parks and Squares of Kazan:

For 7 years the Directorate of Parks and Squares of Kazan has been implementing an environmental agenda in parks - event and environmental program of the Kazanka River Development Strategy, environmental rafting, electric subbotniks. Together with the Kullar company, we made benches, changing rooms and a Christmas tree from recycled plastic. And in the park named after Uritskogo, together with the company "Verkhnyaya". A composter was installed in Uritsky Park together with Vernivgrunt. We also resumed the legendary mobile station with the community "Ecological", which used to be held in MEGA Kazan. The appearance of the Ecostation on the bank of the Kazanka River, as well as the mobile station is for us a continuation of the agenda. The first action of the mobile station on March 31, which was attended by more than 700 residents of Kazan and resulted in the collection of 2.8 tons of recyclable materials, showed that there is a demand from the population.
Exhibition

The pavilion "Ecostation" presents an exposition about recycling packaging that we encounter every day: plastic bottles and caps, aluminum cans, juice and milk cartons. Video clips on screens and graphic posters illustrate the need for recycling and how it relates to the biodiversity of the region. Stands demonstrate the recyclability of different fractions into items made from recycled materials.
Alena Kazakova, EcoTechnologies Project Manager:

Kazan has a well-developed eco-community and many environmentally conscious people. In order to support and develop the eco-culture, the city lacked a permanent, publicly accessible thematic space. The station is designed to become such a place, both for those who practice eco habits and for newcomers. We designed the pavilion to show the full life cycle of waste, and to give people the opportunity to recycle recyclable materials themselves using recycling equipment, and to make an eco-friendly souvenir as a keepsake.

In addition, while at the Ecostation, visitors will be able to scan a QR code to the website with the EcoGuide. It tells about ecological habits that can be introduced into your life, and a convenient digital format will allow you to return to useful materials if necessary.

In addition, inside the pavilion there are containers for the separate collection of rare waste, and outside there is a mesh container in the form of an art object. Visitors can learn the rules for accepting recyclables and donating them for recycling.

Recycling Workshop

The Ecostation space will host regular workshops on plastic recycling using modern and safe equipment. Under the guidance of the pavilion manager, participants will be able to see how plastic is crushed, melted, and filled into molds to make new products.

For this purpose, the workshop is equipped with special machines for plastic processing - crusher, injection molding machine and injector. The crusher converts plastic into flexa, which is then used for loading into injection molding machines. There is no similar open space in Kazan where you can get acquainted with recycling equipment.

The events

Throughout the year, the Ecostation pavilion will host events of various formats that will allow you to incorporate environmental knowledge into your lifestyle, form useful habits, find like-minded people, and have a great time:

  • Master classes;
  • Lectures;
  • Meetings of ecological communities;
  • Swaps - an event to exchange different categories of things;
  • Training workshops on separate waste collection;
  • Summer street lectures, discussions and festivals.

The organizers will adhere to the concept of waste minimization at the event itself. For example, after the opening ceremony "Next Station - Eco!", materials from the development and waste generated at the festival, such as plastic cups and aluminum beverage cans, were sent for recycling to the regional waste management operator - UK PZHKH.
Farida Gazimova, EcoLogic community activist:

The dream of the team and our community about the Ecocenter has begun to come true. Here we will be able to combine resources and ideas of different projects. I believe that the work of the Eco-station will attract new like-minded people and will be the first step towards the creation of a large urban eco-space.
Mobile collection of recyclable materials

Every last Sunday of the month, EcoLogicno's Mobile Recycling Collection Point works in the parking lot next to the Eco Station. During the event, Kazan residents will be able to recycle various types of recyclable materials: waste paper, machinery, cat and dog food, glass, metal, tetrapack, PET bottles, technical PET and PET containers, solid HDPE and LDPE, polypropylene, soft and foil plastic.

It will also be possible to recycle rare recyclable fractions: foil, doipak, plastic tubes, disks, pens, felt-tip pens, razors, toothbrushes, plastic cards, plastic lids, cash receipts, medicine blisters, cash register tape sleeves.
