"The composition of polymer composite sleepers usually includes crumb rubber, mineral fillers, glass fiber reinforcing filaments, some "secret" additives. The binder is recycled plastic that holds the whole mixture together."
Wood and reinforced concrete last many times longer and are harmful to the environment, so they need to be replaced with greener alternatives. But now the technology to make polymer sleepers needs to be improved before they can be widely used.
