According to the author of the sculpture, Alexei Lazarev, the image of the butterfly was chosen to remind the residents of Kazan about the importance of everyone's efforts in the fight against plastic pollution.
The art object was chosen within the framework of the competition. More than 20 participants presented their projects of art objects to the jury, which were 90% recycled or waste. The jury included Konstantin Rzayev, managing partner of EcoPartners Group.
In August 2019, the government of the Republic of Tatarstan and Coca Cola in Russia signed an agreement to develop a culture and practice of separate waste collection. We acted as an infrastructure partner of the project: we installed containers for separate waste collection and furniture made of recycled plastic in the parks and courtyards of Kazan.
